we have SO MUCH free time during ‘nap time’ and after the kids go to
bed, we like to make a little pocket change off our blog posts
occasionally…to afford lip gloss, wine, and boots=) So FYI there are some affiliate links in this post.
I did a post awhile ago about all the essential items you’ll need to start potty training. I wrote it after potty training my daughter but boys are a little different. Although the equipment needed is the same, there are a few features that you will need to consider to accommodate their little squirters. So here is a revamped list to include a few notes specific to our sweet little boys (although most of these apply to girls as well!).
will need a ton of underwear starting out and they will get washed A
LOT. A quick tip- boxers seem to absorb a bit more than underwear for
boys. Something else I’ve learned is that although the Disney brand
undies are adorable, they do not hold up well in the wash (the elastic
breaks). Fruit of the Loom
or Carter’s brand are our favorites.
on Amazon are very reasonably priced. They have 4 packs right now for around $10! Lots of options for both boys and little girls.
Potty Chairs and Seats
A singing potty may seems ridiculous but this was what made things “click” for my kids. I love this one by FisherPrice
because the tune is catchy, the seat’s guard is tall enough so your little boy won’t pee out the front, it’s easy to clean AND the seat comes off and clicks onto your regular toilet when your child transitions to a real potty. If you are looking for a potty seat only, almost any will do for a girl. Make sure you get one like this Thomas the Train
seat with a high guard for your little boys!
There are a lot of kid’s options for wipes but I’ve found that the best flushable version is the “adult” kind. They all serve the same purpose but Cottonelle’s version
is larger than the kid’s wipes which helps when your kids learn to clean themselves (good luck with that).
. My kids always had a hard time with the paper ones in the stalls because they slide around and don’t stay put.
in our car, in my diaper bag and one in our stroller. They’ve saved us lots of times when someone has puked in the car, I needed to clean our folding potty seat after use or to wipe down a dirty table in the food court.
is the best thing EVER. Their travel size bottles are perfect for your diaper bag and they are refillable!
soaked up every bit AND saved his carseat straps. YES!!
