I should probably re-title this “my SON is why we don’t have nice things”. God love him…he ruins everything.
After having a boy, I don’t know why I buy new or nice things. For example- last Christmas I was given two new necklaces. An arrow from Tiffany and a personalized necklace from Q Handmade. Both gorgeous and very much cherished. My son has pulled on them and broken them both multiple times. And then he broke my “replacement” necklaces that I wore while those were getting fixed…here’s my collection of broken necklaces so far-
There have been two more added to that collection since I took that picture. Thank God I don’t wear earrings. Then two days ago this happened…
I’m sure you can guess who did that. We gave him my phone to play with in the car but forgot to take it away when we got home. First thing he did was run down the drive way and just threw it over his shoulder like a piece of trash. And that’s exactly what it is now. Trash.
This little boy can turn a mess out of anything. I feel like he will be very resourceful when he gets older but for now, he just makes a big mess. What other child do you know that can do THIS with just ONE M&M?!
There are some days where I can’t explain a single productive thing I’ve done besides follow Jack around and clean up messes. My daughter will watch in horror as he pulls down a tub full of Legos or stands on his train table and uses all his strength to pull apart the pieces that have been super glued down more times than I can remember. She is his exact opposite- never messy, loves to clean, likes coffee…she is my mini me.
But how can I be mad when he looks at me with those big puppy dog eyes?!
Jack has taught me so much in the last 22 months. I have a nice long list of ways my heart has grown but my attitude towards life has been seriously altered. I’ve learned to let go of the tight grip I had on my clean house and my “nice things”. Sleep is overrated and pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner is OK when you have a little boy. I’ve learned to buy the extra protection plan on any new electronic purchase and that just because a stroller has straps, that doesn’t mean it can contain a resourceful little boy.
