I try to do a fun craft with my daughter at least once a week. Normally this means just sitting down at the table and drawing, cutting and pasting but today we had a craft with a theme- Mother’s Day flowers! This is a super quick and easy craft that I found on Pinterest. I couldn’t get a link back to a blog but here is the image.
We got started during nap time today by gathering our supplies (all things we already had…score!)
My daughter is 4 and getting really great at using scissors so I drew out some lines on green construction paper and she helped me cut “stems”-
Next up we traced her hands. I let her do this on one side and then I traced them “for real” on the other side for me to cut.
Next up we glued her stems and hand flowers to our paper-
We like to use A LOT of glue.
We have to do most of our crafts while my 17 month naps…he’s so so into crafts and more into eating crayons and trying to poke his eyeballs out with scissors. So this is what we had before he woke up-
Then it was time to get my son’s hands done. It takes great skill to trace the hands of an active 17 month old boy so I didn’t get any pictures. There might have been some crying involved…this is supposed to be FUN!
My daughter glued his flowers on and she helped me pick a piece of scrap fabric to make a cute bow. You could do this with a different colored construction paper…we just happened to have the fabric out.
I found some tissue paper and we might use that to ball up and put on the hands to make petals. That’s still a little frustrating for my 4 year old who likes things to be PERFECT. Do I dare start a war with tissue paper? Maybe tomorrow…
It’s not museum quality artwork but it is perfectly imperfect to me. When the glue dries I’ll have my daughter write their names on the back and maybe add some cute stickers or something to the front. It will hang on our refrigerator until she brings her next masterpiece home from preschool. Then I’ll throw it in the box with their baby book so I can remember how big (small) there hands were this Mother’s Day.
