One of my best friends in my weight loss/get-fit journey was signing up for My Fitness Pal.
My Fitness Pal is FAB-U-LOUS because it holds you accountable for what you put in your mouth and how many calories you burn through exercise.
It is easy. You set up your profile. Enter in your stats….weight, height, and age. Then post your current weight and your goal weight and the amount of time you want to loose the weight. Be reasonable(…do not say you want to loose 20 pounds in one month). The program will then tell you how many calories you can consume each day to achieve your goal.
Next, you can add “friends”. Ask around. Many of your friends are probably already using this app. Be their “friend” so you can encourage each other to complete your login each day and hold each other accountable for weighing in and working out.
The final part is simple. LOG! Log everything you put into your mouth. Do NOT cheat. List the creamer you put into your coffee and the mayo you spread on your sandwich and the wine you drink at night. As you add your food and drink items your calories will be deducted. If you participate in physical activity, calories will be added to your daily allowance. (My favorite part so I can have a little extra treat at night!)
This app helped me become aware of exactly how MUCH I was consuming each day. At first I was eating almost 500-1,000 calories MORE than I should have on a daily basis. (No wonder I could not loose any weight.)
While the first week or two was difficult for me adjust to my new eating habits, it soon became my ‘new normal’. I was able to loose the last 10-15 pounds of my baby weight PLUS the extra weight I started with pre-pregnancy.
This is not me…but this transformation is quite impressive.
