I choose to make the majority of my son’s baby food so I could control the texture, but I also love the fact that I can decide the portion sizes. I feel like I wasted so much store bough baby food when we did solids with my daughter because of spoon/spit contamination, spilled containers and/or expiration dates.
Ice cube trays (basic) or silicone tray (for baby food) for freezing.
I personally like the silicone tray because it has a lid and the frozen food slides out of it pretty easily.
Storing homemade food is so simple. After making your baby food, just pour individual portions into your containers and freeze. I would let things freeze overnight to get nice and done. The next morning I’d pop the cubes out of their containers and throw into gallon freezer bags making sure to label what the food was and it’s expiration date. I always made sure to get as much air out of the bag before sealing so things don’t get freezer burn(that goes for when I’d take food out and seal it back up as well!).
Here are some basic foods that are good in the refrigerator for 3 days and/or the freezer for 3 months:
Banana (freezer for 3 months…won’t store well in fridge)
Similar to frozen meat, the best way to thaw baby food is by placing it in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours. You can also put the frozen food in a microwave safe bowl and defrost in the microwave (just make sure to stir frequently and check the temp before feeding to baby!).
Anyone else have tips for storing baby food?
