TV and travel go hand and hand in this house. If we drive any farther than an hour, the iPad comes with us and is on the whole time.
Some people are highly against TV for kids, even when traveling. I say everything is OK in moderation and those people probably haven’t spent 6 hours in a car with a screaming kid. There’s only so much a Mom can handle. I believe 100% in what I call the “Dora Effect”:
Before we leave on any trip I make sure our iPad is stocked with my daughter’s favorite shows and apps. I make sure to have a few new things on there as well to bust out when she gets bored of Dora or Nemo.
Some of the Barton family favs include: Toy Story 1-3 (warning…if you haven’t seen 3, you will cry…even the men), Princess and the Frog, Lion King, Henry Huggelmonster and Doc McStuffins.
The Workman kids love all Classic Disney Movies, Hotel for Dogs, Dolphin Tale and they cannot get enough of Cars and Monsters Ink.
My youngest is 7 months old tomorrow (how can this be?!) and will probably be getting some travel TV in when he’s 10 months when we go to a wedding. My dilemma from this point forward…we only have 1 iPad. What do I do? There’s no way my daughter is going to share that puppy. Do we break down and buy a dual DVD player or buy another tablet? What did you Mommies of 2 do when you started traveling with both kids?
