Did your children get totally spoiled from Christmas?
Just when I had their playroom organized, Christmas threw up ALL over.
I am embarrassed to post these pictures. But here is the aftermath…
I admit. For a solid week after we got home from our Christmas travels I kept this door shut with the lights out. Avoidance. If I didn’t see it, the disaster didn’t exist. (yea-right) When I finally had the time and motivation to tackle this project I had one motto in mind. “Don’t leave until every toy has a new home”.
Tips for Organizing Your Playroom:
-Set aside a few hours to tackle the project
-Have a drink (alcohol optional) and music on hand
-Make sure kids are not around
-Have several garbage bags
-Have several bins available
Create More of a Mess than You Started With
-Empty out all current bins.
-Throw out any games/puzzles with missing pieces.
-Throw out any stray toys
-Throw out any damaged toy
-Start a donation pile.
-Donate all toys that your child has outgrown
-Donate all toys that your child has not played with for several months
-Start a “Rotation” pile.
-Put toys in a bin that are seasonal toys (and currently off-season)
-Put toys in a bin that have not interested your child for a short while but may again if re-introduced in a few months
-Start sorting all toys.
-Put all the baby dolls together
-Put all of the musical interments together
-Put all of the barbies together.
-Put all of the Little People together.
-Put all of the super hero figurines together.
-Put all of the matchbox cars together.
If your husband walks in, he may be asking, “What the hell have you been doing this whole time?!?” Because your room may now look like this….
Now is the fun part. You get to start placing all the ORGANIZED toys into their new homes.
I tried to keep all of my daughters toys in adjoining bins and all of my sons toys in adjoining bins. I put all of their “shared” toys (term used lightly) in adjoining bins.
I am slightly OCD so I rearranged A LOT and still have some things I would like to do. But, here is the end result…
MUCH better!!! Now all of their toys fit into their playroom and looks tidy. My next goal is to label all of their bins so they can easily find their toys and (most importantly) put them back where they belong.
Here are some other organizational pieces I love!
I love how these stand vertically!
How cute would these be for stuffed animals and larger items?
Are you RE-organized from Christmas??
