Being a full time mother of two young children, I have decided that I have NO time to clean.
That creates a minor problem since I have OCD. I LOVE to 409 my counter tops and there canNOT be one streak or crumb on my counter tops–e.v.e.r. (I probably go through one spray bottle every 2-3 weeks.)
I also canNOT stand when items are not in their “home”. And everything visible to the eye must have a “home”.
So, how does my ‘clean’ home stay clean when we are short on time??
Let me teach you a few short cuts.
#1. When Cooking in the Kitchen: Keep all “like” items together. Example: always keep refrigerator items in a pile. That way, when it is time to put things back in the refrigerator you can grab all of the items and put them in the fridge quickly verses putting them in one. by. one. (It is like taking ONE giant step vs 7 unnecessary steps!)
#2. Take the extra 30 seconds… Take the extra time each morning to make your bed, put your laundry in the laundry basket, put your make-up back in its correct spot, and hang up the 3 outfits you decided not to wear. Taking these moments will free up a total of 5-10 minutes of a huge mess later in the day (or two).
#3. Always plan ahead! (And I am secretly not really good at this!) Know what you have the next day and get your diaper bag packed with diapers, wipes, a sippy cup, and snack. When you wait until the day of, you are usually running late on time and will end up leaving things out and not cleaning up after yourself.
#4. Never walk down (or upstairs) empty handed. ALWAYS carry a basket of laundry, dirty dishes, or child;) First thing every morning I walk down the stairs with a basket of dirty laundry to start right way. By the time breakfast is over I am ready to switch the laundry over. (Sometimes I don’t get to fold the laundry until nap time…and lets be honest, many times it does not get put away for a few days.)
#5. DON’T SIT DOWN!!!! Whatever you do during the day, do not sit down!!! Personally, every time I sit down, it gives me silent permission to not stand up again. (BAD idea when I have a million things to do the rest of the the day/night!!)
