Over the last few years I perfected my time in the kitchen. I am now an efficient cooking machine that can’t be bothered with with packaged foods and take out. OK, that’s a lie. I still love Hamburger Helper. There’s just something about packaged, powered cheese and noodles that warms my heart. And I’m a sucker for “the Donald’s”. Anyway…Here’s how I save some time in the kitchen:
3. Load the dishwasher as you go. So simple but it really does save time on clean up!
4. Start tomorrow’s dinner while tonight’s is in the oven. If you can get a head start on the next meal or several meals, do it while you are waiting for the meal in the oven.
5. Chop several meals ingredients at once. Having onions with everything on your menu this week? Give them all a quick chop at the beginning of the week and keep in the fridge. Saves chopping time AND clean up time since you only have to do it once. Plus who doesn’t love NOT smelling like onions all week?
6. Freeze left over ingredients. Tired of wasting things like fresh garlic and green onions? Just keep them in the freezer until you are ready to use again. They are just as good as fresh! Bonus- your hands don’t smell as garlicy if you chop it frozen. ;o)
the kids help. Seems counter productive right? But if your children are
anything like my daughter, they do really well when given a few tasks
to work on. I let her set the table, help me mash or mix things, count
ingredients…etc. It makes her feel like a big helper and allows me to
keep her busy in the kitchen instead of whining in the other room. Check out this helper LOL
