Around the time baby starts toddling around, accidents WILL start occurring, as well.
Baby may be uneasy on his feet, loose his balance, and topple over. This can cause mommy to panic. Most of the time it looks and sounds a lot worse than it really is.
Personal Story: Last year my daughter was playing on the bottom few stairs of a friends house. I turned around for 30 seconds and next thing I knew she was 5 high, tumbling down. We heard a LOUD crash and I, of course, over-reacted. She was fine. We walked away with a small goose-egg and lots of tears from her (and I).
But, when is the accident not something to just brush off? When do you call the doctor??
-If it is a minor cut, scrape, or bruise, you should be okay. They are pretty normal for toddlers. But sometimes minor injuries can turn into a serious problem. Follow my simple motto: When in doubt, call the doctor! Listen to your gut.
-If your child’s minor injury is not healing appropriately or a cut or scrape starts to look infected, call the doctor.
-If your child is bleeding and it does not subside, a suspected broken bone, a major fall resulting in hitting the head, or if baby swallowed something dangerous but is still acting normal, a trip to the Emergency Room may be warranted.
-If your child has lost conscious, has difficult breathing, has a seizure, or swallowed something dangerous with immediate negative effects, call 911.
