Finding Out the Sex

April 9, 2012 by naptimetales 4 Comments

To Find Out or Not Find Out….
The question of the day…
Surveys say it is 50/50.
I have lots of friends who have chosen not to find out the sex of their baby.   I am not going to lie, I cannot imagine going through my pregnancy with the unknown.  (I am 100% Type A personality and must know everything to plan ahead.)  BUT, I think it is really cool that they do not find out!

I asked a few friends why you would not find out.  Here are some of the responses….
“There are few surprises in life”
“Life’s best surprise”
“Motivator for pushing”  (omg–I never thought of that one!!)
“At the shower, we got all of the things we needed instead of the pink and blue clothes.” (wow–that one is awesome!)

Why would you find out??
-Hello pink or blue!!   How fun to decorate the nursery gender specific?!?
-Isn’t it a surprise at 20 weeks?!?
-You can get all sweet pink or blue clothes washed and ready for babies arrival.  Baby comes and you don’t have to worry about getting these details together.

Some fun ways to share the sex if you do find out at 20 weeks:
-Have the ultra sound technician put the results in an envelope and open it with your whole family.

-Give the envelope to the bakery and have them make you cupcakes with the inside pink or blue (who will bite into it first?…pretty sure I would take a bite into one as soon as I picked them up from the store).

-Have a reveal party.  Have your guests wear the color (pink or blue) that they think you are going to have (you and daddy wear green or yellow).  Then, have a grand reveal!  Have guests bite into the cupcakes, release pink or blue balloons, or have grandparents open a gift with gender specific gift.

So, are you going to find out???

I am Type A to the max but we aren't finding out the gender. We already have some names picked out. so there isn't anything to look forward to at birth except the gender. So we know once the baby arrives, is it Jayce or Averi? For the nursery, we will give each child an animal theme but the bedding will contain multiple animals & the major pieces will be gender neutral so it won't have to change for every child.

That's a great idea about the nursery! You can keep in neutral but still have something special in mind for a boy or girl.

I just found out I'm going to be a mommy this weekend and as of right now (and how I've been for the past few years in discussion) I don't want to find out. I've seen in-laws who found out get nothing but pink, pink, pink, tutus and frills for their daughters! I don't want to have pink or blue themed essentials, because I plan on having another child in the future and want to reuse everything that I can. I'm also terrified that it could be wrong and I could be told I'm having a girl when I'm having a boy! (I know it's rare, but if I can't be 110% certain, I don't want to know! Heck, I took two pregnancy tests this weekend and another one today to triple confirm I'm pregnant!)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! How exciting!! While both of us found out the sex, we have many friends who did not. I (Ash W) had a boy first. I registered for ALL gender neutral items. (Of course, some people bought gender specific outfits and I was thankful for that because I didn't want to put him in all yellow.) In fact, I bought my first PINK item when my daughter (second born) was 6 months old and they were pink nail clippers. My friends who did not find out the sex say that it was the biggest/best surprise of their life. How cool!?!? If I weren't such a control freak I would love to be adventurous and not find out. Make sure you check back in with us in 9 months and tell us what you had!!!!!
